Eugenie Bouchard defeated Maria Sharapova in three sets at the Madrid Open on Monday, and ended the second-round affair with a chilly exchange for the woman she called a “cheater” 12 days earlier.

Bouchard, who won the match 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, said less than two weeks ago that Sharapova should’ve received a lifetime ban for her positive drug test last year. She refused to back off that opinion Monday, when asked if she still feels the five-time Grand Slam champion should be exiled from the sport forever.

“I still have the same opinion as I had when I got asked that question before,” Bouchard said after the match.

The victory marked Bouchard’s first over Sharapova in five attempts. It was their first meeting since the 2015 Australian Open.

“I definitely had some extra motivation going into today,” said the world No. 60, according to Charlie Eccleshare of The Telegraph. “I was actually quite inspired before the match because I had a lot of players coming up to me privately wishing me good luck, players I don’t normally speak to, getting a lot of texts from people in the tennis world that were just rooting for me. So I wanted to do it for myself, but also all these people. I really felt support. It showed me that most people have my opinion, and they were just maybe scared to speak out.”

The Madrid Open was only Sharapova’s second tournament entry since returning from her 15-month suspension. Her ranking currently sits at No. 258.
