Serena Williams won her match on Wednesday to reach the semi-final match. She beat Timea Bacsinszky in a hard fought match coming out ahead 7-5, 6-3. It was relatively a short match taking an hour and twenty-five minutes but a very close match especially in the first set.

This is Williams first time at the Indian Wells after boycotting the event for the past 14 years. She was booed in the 2001 final at Indian Wells and hostile reception from the crowd resulted in her boycotting the event for the past 14 years.

“I’m just happy I was able to get through and still be alive in this tournament when I haven’t clearly been the Serena that we all know,” she said.

She will face Romanian Simona Halep who is third seed in the semi-final. Halep beat Suarez Navarro after the losing the first set 5-7. She took care of business in the following two sets winning 6-1, 6-1.

This is will the sixth time the two will meet. Williams lead Halep head to head series 4-1. The only time Halep beat Williams was in October 2014.

The other semi finals spots will be determined on Thursday.
