Roger Federer beat Andreas Seppi 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday night to advance to round of 16. Federer was motived to avenge his loss to Seppi in the Australian open.

“It absolutely was an opportunity right away to play him again and sort of erase it to some extent from the memory as the season moves forward,” said Federer.

Seppi had beaten Federer in Melbourne in the third of the Australian open this year but Federer was no match for Seppi in this tournament. That is the only loss Federer has suffered this year.

Federer will play American Jack Sock in the next match scheduled for March 18 at 5pm PST.
