Australian Open 2014 Preview: Roger Federer vs. Teymuraz Gabashvili

Roger Federer will take on Teymuraz Gabashvili of Russia in the Australian Open third round on Saturday 18th January at 01:15 GMT, which will be held at outdoor hard courts at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne Park.

Roger Federer has been leading with a 1-0 win loss head-to-head record against Teymuraz Gabashvili, while the pair is meeting for the second time on their career. Both the players last meet at the 2007 Wimbledon Championships first round and Swiss star won the match in straight sets with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 score line.

Federer has overcome against second round oppanent Blaz Kavcic in successive sets with a 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 score line, while outlasted James Duckworth in opening round with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in the Australian Open tournament. Sixth seed has been playing good tennis at the moment in Australian Open and he is going to face tough opponents in upcoming matches. Federer had played best tennis to reach Brisbane International final before losing to final.

Teimuraz Gabashvili has conquered Spanish Fernando Verdasco in thrilling five sets with a 6-7, 6-3, 6-2, 4-6, 4-6 score line in the Australian Open second round and defeated Sergiy Stakhovsky in four sets in opening round 6-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-0.

As per the predications, Federer is considered as heavy favorite to clinch victory in third round and advances into the 2014 Australian Open fourth round, being played here at the Rod Laver Arena.
