World No. 1 Serena Williams hopes to clinch the season opening Grand Slam Australian Open and she is looking heavy favorite to bag the crown for sixth time in her tennis career next month.
Serena Williams, who had lost Australian Open 2013 quarter final to her fellow country mate Sloane Stephens in three sets with a 6–3, 5–7, 4–6 and she is also ended her 20 match winning streak stretches from the 2012 US Open. American tennis star will have to face big challenge against defending champion and World No. 2 Victoria Azarenka in the Australian Open, where both the players will have battle for championship next month at Rod Laver Arena.
17-time singles Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has won her first Australian Open title in 2003 beating former world No. 1 Venus Williams in three sets with a 7–6(7–4), 3–6, 6–4 score line. American star went on to clinch second Australian Open again in 2005, where she has outlasted Lindsay Davenport in three sets with a 2–6, 6–3, 6–0 score line. Serena is having impressive record at Rod Laver Arena by winning five titles so far in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010.
Victoria Azarenka is going to defend the Australian Open title, but she will have to face tough opponents Serena Williams, Li Na and Maria Sharapova. Azarenka has defeated World No. 3 Li Na in three sets with a 4–6, 6–4, 6–3 to lift Australian Open 2013 crown.
