World number two Andy Murray raised curtains to a challenge with Serena Williams. Initially it started as funny conversation on twitter. But later Murray found it as a good opportunity to play the match with Serena Williams to raise funds for the charity.
The conversation started after Murray won the Wimbledon. One of Murray’s fans tweeted that “@andy_murray I recon serena williams could beat u on grass.. And I’m not even joking”. As a response Murray tweeted “@tomcarswell1 me too! Maybe we can set it up one day and see how close I get”.
Later Murray seriously discussed his offer in a BBC website and went ahead by suggesting Nevada gambling capital as a suitable venue for the showdown. “I’ve never hit with her but she’s obviously an incredible player,” he wrote, “and I think people would be interested to see the men play against the women to see how the styles match up. It’s happened in the past with Jimmy Connors and Martina Navratilova. How about Las Vegas as a venue?” he said.
When the press approached Serena, first she didn’t take it serious “He’s challenged me?” Williams asked journalists after her second-round defeat of France’s Caroline Garcia. “That would be fun. I doubt I’d win a point, but that would be fun.”
Serena also stated “Murray was probably one of the top three people I definitely don’t want to play. But yeah, maybe we can have a little bit of a showdown. That would be fine.”
Serena Williams also proposed a handicap system for match with Murray to ensure a more competitive encounter. Overall this appears to be fun and interesting match which will be feast to fans.
Honestly, Murray is very much curious to raise more funds when the fans are eager to watch top players compete. Murray nevertheless in plans for an action replay of Wimbledon final match with Djokovic at New York’s Madison Square Garden in March to rise funds for a cause
