World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka will join along with the Russian beauty Maria Sharapova and World No. 3 Serena Williams to take part in the Brisbane International in January.
22-year-old Victoria Azarenka, of Belarus has committed to play in the Brisbane International and joins along with the World No. 2 Maria Sharapova and American tennis champion Serena Williams in the main lead-up tournament. Brisbane International will begin in first week of January’s, before heading into the 2013 Australian Open in Melbourne, the season’s first Grand Slam.
Azarenka said she is looking forward to lift the second Brisbane International crown, as she won the title in 2009 beating Frenchwomen Marion Bartoli in consecutive sets with a 6-1, 6-3 score line. She added he is very proud to finish the season as No. 1 for the first time in her career and aiming to win more slams next year. Azarenka is very excited for the upcoming WTA Tour and will begin preparation from next month.
The WTA players, who have confirmed for Brisbane International, are Germany’s Angelique Kerber, Sara Errani of Italy, Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic and Australia’s Samantha Stosur. Azarenka said it will be prefect preparations for the Australian Open and hopes to defend the title at Australian Open.
