Serena Williams, the 13-time singles Grand Slam champion leads United States Fed Cup team with a 2-0 in the best of five series against Belarus, who was leading by new World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka.
The World No. 12 Serena Williams has overcome against Olga Govortsova in opening round rubber match in two sets with a 7-5, 6-0, while defeated Anastasiya Yakimova in three sets with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 to help her nation to lead with a 2-0. Serena is schedule to play against 2012 Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka in the opening match on Sunday evening, but World No. 1 has withdrawn from Fed Cup with lower back injury.
The 30-year-old Serena Williams has showed best performance in Fed Cup singles matches, while Christina McHale defeated Darya Kustova in the second match with a 6-0, 6-1. The seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams and World number one doubles champion Liezel Huber has overwhelmed Kustova and Yakimova with a 6-1, 6-2 to lead United States with a 5-0 against Belarus.
The former World No. 1 Serena said she is very happy with her performance in Fed Cup and looking forward to continue similar form in further WTA tournaments in 2012 season.
