Tennis world No.1, Novak Djokovic and Argentina soccer star, Lionel Messi are the top two-contender in sports men of the year for the prestigious 2012 Laureus World Sports Awards, which are set to be disclosed on Monday, February 6, 2011.
Serbian top seed, Novak Djokovic is among in six contenders fighting for the 2012 Laureus World Sports men of the year for his phenomenal performance in 2011 tennis season.
Tennis player has shown exceptional performance clinching 10-titles, which includes three grand slams in Australian Open, Wimbledon and US open and has got superb win-loss record of 70-6 in 2011 ATP world tour tournaments.
Serbian, Djokovic has been tipped as one of most influential contenders to clinch the Laureus World Sports award along with football player, Lionel Messi.
Argentina soccer star, Messi has been nominated for the third time for the Sports men award. However, he hasn’t taken the award to home. If Messi wins, he will be the first soccer player to snatch the Laureus World Sports Awards.
Meanwhile, Sprint star Usain Bolt, the Jamaican runner who holds both world and Olympic records is likely to win his third Laureus award.
However, it was the tennis players, who are favored to win most at Laureus. Former world No.1 and 16-times grand slam champion, Roger Federer was crowned for four times.
2012 Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony which is also known as Oscar in sports will be seized Central Hall, Westminster in London.
