The 2012 Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka and World No. 2 Petra Kvitova to take part in the Fed Cup for their respective nations this week with eight World Group nations will fight for the crown.
The 22-year-old Azarenka will play Fed Cup for her country in World Group II first round against United States, while former World No. 1 Serena Williams and seven-time singles Grand Slam champion Venus Williams will make their come back next month. Azarenka hopes to win Fed Cup in February, but she is going to face a tough challenge against Williams’ sisters. The Belarus star has climbed to No. 1 position in the WTA Rankings, after winning 2012 Australian Open title beating Maria Sharapova in the final.
The 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will open their title defence against Germany in Stuttgart. While the hosts are missing key player like Andrea Petkovic, where they’re going to face a tough challenge against Czech Republic, who was lead by in-form player Petra Kvitova and she has been passing through with an amazing form.
World Group opening round will kick off from 4th to 5th February, where Russia will take on Spain in Moscow, Belgium will meet Serbia in Charleroi and Italy will face Ukraine in Biella. The three-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova is going to participate in the Russia’s Fed Cup against Spain.
