Rafael Nadal to skip Spain’s Davis Cup tie

Rafael Nadal, the 10-time Grand Slam champion is going to skip from the Davis Cup tie against Kazakhstan in this season’s opening round, announced by Spanish tennis federation on Monday.

The former World No. 1 Rafael Nadal, world no. 5 David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco were inaccessible for the first-round matchup Davis Cup tie in Oviedo. Nadal, who has helped his nation to win fifth Davis Cup championship, which included other teammates  David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco to defeat Argentina with a 3-1.

The World No. 2 Rafael Nadal wants to focus more on individual career in 2012 season and targeting to win gold medal in London Olympics, schedule to begin in July. Rafa is going to take break from tennis in February, where he needs to take rest and spend much time with family and friends.

The new Spain Davis Cup captain Alex Corretja will lead the Spain in 2012 Davis Cup tie, where World No. 11 Nicolas Almagro, Marcel Granollers, former No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero and Marc Lopez have joined in the team. Davis Cup tie schedule to begin from February 10th to 12th at Oviedo. The 26-year-old Nicolas Almagro insists he was proud to play in Davis Cup team for his nation and hopes to show best performance. He said he has been return back into the team for the first time, since two years. Juan Carlos Ferrero has played last Davis Cup tie in 2009, while Marc Lopez will make his first appearance in the team.
