World No.1, Novak Djokovic on Sunday has defended his Australian Open title beating world No.2, Rafael Nadal in the finals of the 2012 Australian Open.
It was a stunning battle between the top two players in the tennis world, as the Serbian top seed, Novak Djokovic has managed to clinch a superb five set victory against the top seeded Spaniard, Rafael Nadal with a score line of 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7(5), 7-5 to clinch his third Australian Open title in 5 hours, 53 minutes at Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne.
Both the players have started the match with a good note in the first set leveling the score with 2-2. The world No. 2 finally gave it back with a poor service game at 4-3, but he struck for a second time at 5-5 and converting break point on an errant Djokovic backhand to take the score to 6-5 in the match and finally saved a break point to take the first set with 7-5.
In the second set, defending champion, Djokovic has bounced back into the game breaking Nadal serve in second game to take a lead of 3-1 and later won back to back breakpoints to make a 5-2 and later won the second set by 6-4 to level the match with 1-1 in two-sets.
Djokovic continued his second set movement against Nadal to win the third set by hamming 11-winners, as Nadal hasn’t won any break points to loss it by 6-2.
Spaniard has gained some confidence and energy in the fourth set by hitting great forehands to stop the defending champion to take the match points. However, it was a tie-break at the end, as Nadal forced to shown al; his power against Djokovic to level the match with 7-6(5).
The final and deciding battle started in fifth set with both the players were taking on each other and leveling the score with 4-4. Melbourne’s top seed went on to hold serve from behind twice to take it 5-5 by breaking Nadal serve and continued to build pressure on the Spaniard to clinch fabulous victory to win his fifth grand slam title in his career.
