World No.2, Rafael Nadal on Thursday, January 26, 2012 has defeated the 30-years old rivals, Roger Federer in the semifinals of the 2012 Australian Open, which is being held in Melbourne.
Top seeded Spaniard, Nadal in his semifinals encounter has knocked out world No.3, Roger Federer with a score line of 6(5)-7 6-2 7-6(5) 6-4 to cruise into the finals of the season opening grand slam title in Rod Laver Arena.
It was a stunning display of 3 hour and 42 minutes by top-two best players, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer at the Rod Laver Arena on Thursday with a huge packed crowd in Melbourne.
Both the players have started off with a great note and took the set-1 to tie break, as Federer sealed the first set with 7-6(5). However, in the second set, Nadal bounced back into the game and shown all his power and energy running round the court to clinch the set with 6-2 and equalize the match with 1-1.
In the third-set and then it reached the tie-breaker. Nadal claimed the third-set in 1 hour and 7 minutes and got two sets to one lead. Nadal was cruising in the tie-breaker, but Federer did well to save four set-points, but once again Nadal’s devastating forehand did end to clinch the third set.
In the final set, Nadal broke Federer in the ninth game of the fourth set and then held on to his serve in the next game to win the blockbuster semifinals.
World No.2, Rafael Nadal will be clashing in finals against Novak Djokovic or Andy Murray in the 2012 Australian Open.
