Russian former world No.1, Maria Sharapova and Belarus world No.3, Victoria Azarenka will be battling against each other in the title match and world No.1 portion in the 2012 Australian Open.
World No.4, Maria Sharapova will be squaring off with the world No.3, Victoria Azarenka in the finals of the 2012 Australian Open on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Rod Laver Arena in the season opening grand slam tournament, which is being held in Melbourne Park, Australia.
The head to head between both the players have clashed in six matches in the past, as both the players have leveled their head to head record with 3-3. However, in their previous encounter at 2011 Rome Masters, eventually champion, Sharapova has knocked out Azarenka with 4-6 3-0 sets, as Belarus was leading the set and retired the match, due to injury.
Victoria Azarenka, who has made an excellent star to the 2012 season by clinching the Apia International Sydney open, has continued her top class form in Australian Open to reach the finals of the season opening grand slam tournament.
The Belarus bidding to clinch her first ever grand slam title in her career has shown a marvelous performance, since the start of Australian Open. Earlier in her semifinal, she has knocked out the defending champion, Kim Clijsters in three set thriller with a score line of 6-4 1-6 6-3.

As per the predictions, it will be three set encounter between the seeded players in tournament in title clash and world No.1 position, as the Belarus, Azarenka will be ending up the match on Saturday by wining her first grand slam title and sealing world No.1 position next week.
