The three-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova will meet World No. 2 Petra Kvitova in the semi final at Australian Open tournament, schedule to begin at 00:00 GMT on Thursday 26th January at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne Park.
The former World No. 1 Maria Sharapova has reached the Australian Open semi final on Tuesday, after overwhelming her country mate Ekaterina Makarova in straight sets with a 6-2, 6-3 score line. Russian top has been playing great tennis with amazing serve in the Australian Open, where she is aiming to win the championship for second time in Melbourne Park. Sharapova had taken one hour and 27 minutes to wrap up the quarter final on Tuesday morning.
The 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has thrashed Italian Sara Errani in two sets with a 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter final. Czech Republic top seed is looking to win second WTA titles in Australia, after winning year’s opening WTA championship at Hopman Cup in Adelaide earlier this month. Kvitova is considered to be one of the huge favorite to win the Australian Open.
Both the players are meeting for the fourth time in career, where Petra Kvitova leads with a 2-0 win loss head-to-head record series against Sharapova. The pair last meet at Japan Open in 2011, as Sharapova retired from the match with knee injury, after leading in the first sets with a 4-3. The predictions favor Petra Kvitova is having most of the possibilities’ to win the semi final and advance into Australian Open final.
