It’s time for the tennis fans all around the world to switch on their screens, as the best tennis rivals, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will be battling for the first time in 2012 to secure their place in the finals of the Australian Open.
World No.2, Rafael Nadal will be squaring off with world No.3, Roger Federer in the semifinals of the 2012 Australian Open on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 00:00GMT, in the second opening grand slam, which is being held in Melbourne.
The head to head between both the players have clashed in 28-matches in the past, as the top seeded Nadal is leading the contest with 19-9 against Swiss great. However, in their previous encounter between both the players was in Abu Dhabi exhibition match, as the Spaniard, Nadal has thrashed out Swiss, Federer in straight sets with a score line of 6-1 7-5.
World No.3, Roger Federer, who has not won any grand slam title last year. However, Federer did recover from the recurring seasonal jolts and finished 2011 on a high note after winning three titles in a row in Basel, Paris and London. The Swiss ace has been also enjoying a torrid form post US Open and has a 28-1 record since then.
Four times Aussies Cham, Federer started off brilliantly and edged past Alex Kudryavtsev, sailed into third round after he was gifted a walkover by Andreas Beck, then he tackled the lanky Ivo Karlovic, later he dispatched home-favourite Bernard Tomic and in the previous clash in Melbourne, Federer has earned an easy victory against Juan Martin Del Potro.
World No.2, Rafael Nadal, who was defeated in the quarterfinals last year at Australian Open to his country men, David Ferrer. However, he has won French Open grand slam and later reached the finals of Wimbledon and US Open. Djokovic beat Nadal in six finals in 2011.
