The 13-time singles Grand Slam champion Serena Williams insist that, she is not physically 100 percent fit to play in a major tournament, as she suffered stunning defeat in the Australian Open fourth round on Monday at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne Park.
The former World No. 1 Serena Williams has been thrashed out of the 2012 Australian Open championship, after losing in straight sets with a 6-2, 6-3 by World No. 56 Ekaterina Makarova of Russia in the fourth round. Serena is the last American tennis star to smash out of the Australian Open on Monday. Serena is also withdrawn from the year’s beginning WTA championship at Brisbane International on outdoor hard courts, where she has pull from the quarterfinals against Daniela Hantuchova earlier this month in Brisbane.
The 30-year-old Serena has been suffering from ankle injury from past couple of months, where she hopes to heal soon from injury, before playing United States Fed Cup in February. American star, who had missed most of the 2011 season with several injuries and health problem, as she is looking to be fully fit in 2012 to take part in all Grand Slam tournaments.
The seven-time Grand Slam holder Venus Williams is also suffering from illness, where she has withdrawn from the Australian Open, earlier tournament begins.
