Former American world No.1, Serena Williams, after facing a stunning defeat against Russian Ekaterina Makarova in the fourth round of the 2012 Australian Open with 6-2 6-3 on Wednesday has hailed her opponent and said that, she is planning to play the United Stated Fed Cup.
Serena while speaking with sources, after her defeat has said that, she probably shouldn’t have played the Australian Open, she never blames any injury which she had, but Makarova has played really well and deserved the victory and added that, she was not 100 percent fit and haven’t been. But, there are no excuses for the loss.
Five times Australian Open champion, Serena hasn’t made it to the quarterfinals for the first time, since 2006.
Williams has also reported that, she is planning to play the United States Fed Cup against Belarus, which is scheduled to be held from February 4-5 in Worcester, Mass and also admitted that, she thinks her elder sister Venus, who has not played since the U.S. Open due to a battling an autoimmune disease, will be able to play. Serena has said that, Venus is training and will be playing the Fed Cup competitions.
Serena is also planning to make her schedule for rest of the season. However, she is thinking about adding another tournament to her schedule, but can’t find one that works.
Thirteen times grand slam champion, Serena Williams is scheduled to play a tournament in Monterrey, Mexico in late February and also Miami.
