The former World No. 1 Maria Sharapova has advances into the quarter finals of the 2012 Australian Open champion ship at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne Park on Monday 23rd January.
The three-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova has overcome against Sabine Lisicki of Germany in the fourth round in three sets with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 score line. Russian top seed Sharapova, who has come back strongly in the second and third sets, after losing opening set with a 3-6. Sharapova has been passing through one of his finest form to begin the 2012 season at Australian Open, where she has withdrawn from the Brisbane International with injury earlier this month in Brisbane.
The World No. 4 Sharapova will meet her country mate World No. 56 Ekaterina Makarova in the Australian Open quarter finals on Wednesday 25th January at Rod Laver Arena. Makarova needs to work hard to beat Australian Open third seed Sharapova in the quarter finals, where both the players are meeting for the third time in career. Sharapova is aiming to win the first Grand Slam championship, since winning her last major at 2008 Australian Open.
The 23-year-old Ekaterina Makarova has thrashed 13-time singles Grand Slam champion Serena Williams of United States in straight sets with a 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth round on Monday. Sharapova leads with a 2-0 win loss head-to-head record against Ekaterina Makarova.
