The 13-time singles Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has registered 500th career, after winning the second round at Australian Open championship on Wednesday at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne Park.
The former World No. 1 Serena has reached Australian Open third round on Thursday, after beating Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of Czech Republic in straight sets with a 6-0, 6-4 score line. American top seed Serena has extended her winning streak to 16 matches at Rod Laver Arena at Melbourne Park, where she also recorded 500th victory of her career.
The 30-year-old Serena has won back-to-back hard court championships at Australian Open in 2009 and 2010, where she has withdrawn from the 2011 with foot injury. Serena holds 500 wins and 104 losses, as she won the 13 singles major titles along with 12 doubles Grand Slams so far in her career. Serena said she wants to surpass her elder sister Venus Williams’s career win-loss record of 598-147 as a pro, as she pulls out of the Australian Open championship with illness.
The American top seed Serena will take on Greta Arn of Hungary in the third round on Friday 20th January, which will take place at Rod Laver Arena at Melbourne Park. Both the players are meeting for the first time in career, where the predictions’ favor Serena Williams is having most of chances to clinch victory in the third round and move to Australian Open fourth round. American star is aiming to win the Australian Open 2012 crown for sixth time in her career, after winning the championship in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010.
