Former American No.1 players, Serena Williams and Andy Roddick have confirmed that, they will be playing the Mixed Doubles tournament in the season opening tournament at the 2012 Australian Open.
Serena Williams has confirmed on Twitter page that, Book it, it’s real!, and declared that, she will be playing mixed doubled along with her friend, Andy Roddick at 2012 Australian Open. Earlier, in 2011 both of them have announced that they will be working together in 2012 ahead of their preparation for the 2012 London Olympics.
Five times Australian Open champion, Serena aiming for his sixth title this season has not played the mixed doubles event with Mardy Fish, since the Hopman Cup in 2008. However, in the end of the 2011, Serena has partner with Fish to play an Exhibition match.
Early in her career, Williams played mixed doubles at the four major events repeatedly, and with huge success, winning Wimbledon and the United States Open in 1998 with the Belarussian Max Mirnyi.
13-times grand slam champion, Serena while speaking about her new doubles partner and friend, Andy Roddick has said that, it will be real fun playing with Roddick. But, as we are busy practicing for singles event, we didn’t have time to speak and added that, she hit the worst volley today and was little worried and thought that, he might want to get a new partner. We’ll see how it goes.
Meanwhile, Andy Roddick has not played any doubles event at the grand slam tournaments since Wimbledon in 2001, and he has never played mixed at a sanctioned tournament and has the experience playing the format has come in World Team Tennis and exhibition matches.
Roddick while speaking about Serena has said that, it will be a fun and added that, we want to be sure to do over the next couple years some of the things that I’ve always wanted to but haven’t been able to do. Serena and I have been friends for a really long time.
Roddick tweeted a snapshot of himself and Williams, a 27-time Grand Slam champion, with the message, “I love this girl”.
