The former World No. 1 Venus Williams has been withdrawn from the 2012 Australian Open championship, where she is struggling with Sjogren’s syndrome, an autoimmune disease that can cause fatigue and joint pain.
The seven-time singles Grand Slam champion Venus Williams has announced on Monday morning that, she was forced to pull out of the year’ opening major tournament, which will begin next week at Melbourne Park. Venus has not played any WTA Tournament, since withdrawn from the 2011 US Open on 31st August. She said she has been working hard from several months of training and treatment to be 100 percent fully fit to play entire WTA Tour in 2012 season.
The World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki said Venus has played tennis for several years and it’s unfortunate to miss the Australian Open with the Sjogren’s syndrome. She added American star should take care of her health, which it is the most important than tennis. Venus also withdrawn from the last week’s WTA tournament at Auckland with saps her energy and causes pain in her joints.
The 13-time singles Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has begin training for the Australian Open, after pull out of the Brisbane International with left ankle injury. Serena has twisted the ankle and crashed heavily to the court, while serving for the match with a 6-2 and 5-3 lead against Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia in the fourth round.
