Andy Murray’s former coach, Alex Corretja will be leading the five times Davis Cup champion, Spain for a period of two-years.
Alex Corretja has been appointed as the Davis Coach for Spain, as a replacement for Albert Costa, who leaded Spain to two Davis Cup titles in three years with a victory over Argentina this month.
Jose Luis Escanuela, the president of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation has praised the selection of former Ronaldo Garros Runner, Corretja stating that, I am convinced that today we have achieved a great deal for Spanish tennis. I want to thank Alex Corretja for his enthusiasm and excitement about this challenge.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed captain, Corretja has said that, (I would like to) thank the president of the RFET and his team for giving me this role, which is an honour and a huge responsibility.
However, it could be a difficult task for the former ATP World Champion, Corretja to clinch the 2012 Davis Cup title for Spain as the top seeded Spaniards, Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer have already confirmed to quit from the Davis Cup matches for Spain, due to Olympic Games.
Former World No.2, Alex Corretja has played a role to clinching first Davis Cup title for Spain in 2000. Later, Corretja has worked as coach for the Britain No.1 player, Andy Murray for a period of three years.
