World No. 6 Australian professional tennis player Sam Stosur is heading confidently towards 2012 after Stosur’s victory over Maria Sharapova at the season-ending WTA Championships in Istanbul that boasted out as an important in a standout year.
It wasn’t about her US Open triumph but beating the former World No.1 Russian Top Player Sharapova, this has given her more confidence stepping into New Year and with hopes of winning the Australian Open Grand Slam Finals. She received high influence through the 6-1 7-5 win in the round-robin opener in Istanbul in October, because it was the first time Stosur had beaten the Russian in 10 meetings.
Stosur stated after the match that’s going to be a big confidence boost up for me the next time I go out on court against her, a 9-0 record isn’t good but now I’ve won one and I guess it proves I can beat her, so, hopefully, I can do it again. She also added If I don’t hit it well enough, then it’s right in her hitting zone where she can just go ‘whack’ and get on top of the point.
She might be facing Sharapova in one of the 2012′s opening events in Brisbane.
