The 16-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer and king of clay Rafael Nadal are likely to clash in the Gerry Weber Open championship next year in Halle.
The greatest rivals in tennis history Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are set ready to clash head-to-head again in the 2012 Gerry Weber Open championship, an ATP World Tour 250 series on the ATP Tour schedule, being played on four outdoor grass courts in Halle. Nadal has withdrawn from the Queen’s Club ATP Championship next year, after strict UK tax regulations came into action. Spaniard said it’s a fantastic ATP tournament and very excited to play in front of German fans here at Gerry Weber Open in Halle and loves to play on lawn court.
The former World No. 1 Rafael Nadal said playing at Halle Open event is very crucial for him, before heading into the Wimbledon and Olympics games in London in 2012. Federer, who has clinched Gerry Weber Open title for five times in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008, where he has withdrawn from groin injury last year. Swiss star could meet Nadal in the Gerry Weber Open final next year June, as they will face a tough competition from 2010 Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych and Frenchman Gael Monfils in group stages.
The World No. 2 Rafael Nadal leads with a 17-9 win loss head-to-head record in overall, but Federer leads 2-1 win loss record on grass court. Both the players last meet in the 2008 Wimbledon final on grass court, where Nadal clinched victory in tough five sets with a 6–4, 6–4, 6–7(5–7), 6–7(8–10 and 9–7 to lift the championship for the first time in his career.
