Former Australian No.1, John Newcombe has commented on the world’s best tennis players in this generation Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
Seven times grand slam champion, Newcombe while speaking with the sources has said that, the world No. 1 Novak Djokovic to have a hard time at the start of the 2012 season, and could see No. 3 Roger Federer re-taking the top spot.
Newcombe has said that, Djokovic, who had an outstanding season this year is really going to struggling for the first half the new season, which will begun in 2012. He also reported that, Djokovic has won many games this season. However, he has been struggling, since the US Open and even at Wimbledon against Bernard Tomic, but he was able to pull himself together. He was very lucky to win the U.S. Open, because Roger Federer should never have lost that match from where he was. And now since the U.S. Open, there’s injuries, a sore shoulder, a sore back, and when you watch him playing, he’s running on three cylinders.
Australian has admitted that, he will be having a tough time, as hi body continues to give in. But, if he really does some amazing things, it will be a superhuman effort for him to repeat the six months and it is very hard to defend. It’s not going to surprise me if, by the end of July next year, Roger is very close to being No. 1
Newcombe is not sure of No. 2 Rafael Nadal’s future. The Spaniard lost to Djokovic in the Wimbledon and U.S Open finals, as well as in four other 2011 tournaments.
With Rafa, it’s like the heavyweight champion of the world that’s never been knocked out, and suddenly, gets knocked out six times within the space of six months by Djokovic.
He doesn’t have the same self-belief any more. All of a sudden he has to face things, questions that he’s never doubted.
Newcombe has said that, it could be big question, if Rafael Nadal will pull back once again into his fine form.
So, as per Newcombe, the 16-times grand slam champion, Roger Federer had an great end to the season winning back to back titles will bounce back to regain his world No.1 rank in ATP World Tour tournaments.
