The 13-time singles Grand Slam champion Serena Williams and former World No. 1 Maria Sharapova are the best tennis players on WTA tennis era.
The World No. 4th ranked Maria Sharapova, who has finished the 2011 season on injury list, after losing two consecutive matches at the WTA Championship in Istanbul in October. Sharapova has bagged 24 WTA singles titles so far in her career including three major titles at the 2004 Wimbledon, 2006 US Open and 2008 Australian Open. Russian beauty has climbed to No. 1 spot in the WTA Rankings on 22nd August in 2005 for the first time in her career.
The 24-year-old Sharapova is the leading WTA player in the endorsements, where she has re-signed her contract with Nike for an 8-year deal, which worth for $70 million. Sharapova has become the top most players for a sportsperson, breaking the previous record of seven-time major title holder Venus Williams for $43 million contract with Reebok. Russian star has named the world’s highest-paid female sportsperson by Forbes, where she will earn 24.5 million and third highest tennis player ahead of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
The World No. 12th ranked Serena Williams of United States, who has clinched 25 Grand Slam, titles so far in her career and a gold medal in 2000 Sydney Olympics and 2008 Beijing Olympics along with her sister and former World No. 1 Venus Williams. Serena is considered to be one of the greatest women’s tennis players in WTA era and she has won more career prize money than any other female sportsperson in history. Serena has won 12 Grand Slam crowns in doubles along with Venus Williams’.
