The former World No. 1 Roger Federer believes ATP should change the World Tour Finals championship format to using best of five sets from three sets.
The World No. 3 ranked Roger Federer likes to play best of five sets in the year ending’s ATP World Tour Finals championship with best of five sets rather than using three sets in every match. Federer said it will show the importance of the player capability in best of five sets at the end of the year. Swiss maestro, who has clinched 2011 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for the sixth time in London last month, after beating World No. 6th Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in three sets with a 6-3, 6-7 and 6-3.
The 30-year-old Federer has return back to great form at the end of the season winning three consecutive titles at Basel, Paris and ATP World Tour Finals. Previously, Federer has won the season ending title in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2010. Federer said, when he was sitting in a room in 2007 ATP World Tour Finals event in Shanghai, all the players preferred to best of three sets, but he was the only player like to play best of five sets to end the season. Swiss maestro said he is very happy to return back to No. 3 spot in the ATP Rankings, before heading into new season.
