Former No.1 players, Roger Federer, Andy Roddick and Maria Sharapova will be playing in the exhibition along with WTA world No.1, Caroline Wozniacki in the BNP Paribas Showdown, which will be held on March 5th 2012 at Madison Square Garden, New York, USA.
The most famous player in the world of tennis, Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki will be playing the most famous arena at the Madison Square Garden will kickoff with exciting tennis action under the lights on March 5th 2012.
The first kickoff under lights will be against the top seeded Women’s player between Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki and will be followed by the men’s action with Roger Federer taking on the American former No.1, Andy Roddick.
It would be an exiting battle between Federer and Roddick, as the both the players have already clashed more then 20-matches against each other. The most fascinating encounter between both the players was in the 2009 Wimbledon final where Federer beat Roddick 16-14 in the fifth set to clinch the Wimbledon crown in 4hr: 16 minutes of play.
Federer has won 16 Grand Slams and 68 ATP Tour Titles. Federer had a streak of appearing in 23 consecutive Grand Slam semifinals. Over that time period, Federer reached 20 out of 23 Grand Slam Finals.
Roddick is a former World No. 1 player and he led the United States to the Davis Cup Title in 2007. He won his only Grand Slam at the 2003 US Open. As of the now Roddick is second seeded American behind Mardy Fish.
March 5, 2012 has been dubbed “Tennis Night in America.” These matches will kick start the tennis season in the United States and it begins a month of professional tennis Masters events that include the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California and Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, Florida.
