16-times grand slam champion, Roger Federer has been honoured with the most unique public figure by a railway locomotive named “Roger Express” in his home town Basel.
Federer was honoured with his bigger-than-life-sized likeness on the loco, which will enter regular passenger service, with one of his sponsors donating to the player’s charity based upon the number of kilometers the engine travels in service.
It was a charity schema of his insurance sponsor National Suisse, where the company will donate the funds to the Federer’s foundation based upon the number of kilometers the locomotive travels once the Roger’s Express get’s on track.
The sponsor funds will be working for the to the Federer children’s foundation, in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe and South Africa. It mainly focuses on early learning and basic education.
30-years old, Federer while speaking with the sources has said that, he has been never named a locomotive before, let alone one bearing my own name. 16-times grand slam champion rode the Engine into the work area, later stepped on to the platform for the opening ceremony of the Roger’s express.
Four times Basel Open champion, Federer is seeking to clinch his fifth title in front of his loving home crowd at Basel, Switzerland.
Defending champion, Federer will be facing his opening round against the Italian, Potito Starace in the 2011 Basel Open.
