The World No. 11th ranked Gilles Simon will take on Russian Nikolay Davydenko in the opening round of the 2011 Valencia Open tournament on Monday 31st October at 12:05 GMT.
Simon has clinched the Sydney Open title and reached the quarterfinals in Dubai, Estoril and Casablanca in this season. The Frenchman also won the Hamburg, before getting into the last eight in Cincinnati Masters. Simon has been playing consistent tennis this year, where he also improved his position in the ATP Rankings.
The 30-year-old Davydenko has return back to top form, as he has reached the Doha Open finals in the beginning of the year and clinched title victory in Munich. The Russian star has reached the Kremlin Open semi finals, before falling to Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia in straight sets with a 2-6 and 5-7. The former World No. 3 ranked Davydenko can squash massive forehands and come up with angled backhands in the match.
Both the players are meeting for the seventh occasion, where Gilles Simon leads with a 5-1 win loss head-to-head record against Davydenko. The pair last meet at 2011 Marseille ATP tournament, as Simon has clinched victory in straight sets with a 7-6(6) and 6-4. The perditions favor Frenchman Simon will win the opening round match and move to second round of the Valencia Open, an ATP 500 series event of the ATP World Tour.
