The 13-time single Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has confirmed that she and her country mate Andy Roddick will play in the mixed doubles at the 2012 Australian Open.
The former World No. 1 Serena has withdrawn from the remaining tournaments in 2011, where she suffered toe injury during the US Open event at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park. Serena said that, she will be pairing in the mixed doubles with World No. 14th ranked Andy Roddick in the year’s first Grand Slam tournament at 2012 Australian Open.
Serena and Roddick also confirmed to play for the United States at 2012 London Olympic in the mixed doubles. Venus Williams to play along with American doubles star Bob Bryan, who has clinched world record of 61 career titles so far. Serena also won 10 doubles Grand Slams and Gold medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and 2008 Beijing Olympics with her sister Venus.
The 29-year-old Serena also committed to play in the 2012 Brisbane International tournament, a WTA tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at the Queensland Tennis Centre at Tennyson in Brisbane. The tournament will kick off on 2nd January, where several WTA top players were committed to play in the event like Maria Sharapova, Samantha and Kim Clijsters.
