The former World No. 1 Serena Williams and four-time Grand Slam champion Kim Clijsters of Belgium will return back to play in the 2012 Brisbane International tournament, played here at the Queensland Tennis Centre in Tennyson in Brisbane.
The 13-time single Grand Slam champion Serena has never played Brisbane International tournament in her career, where she is looking positive to return back to court in January first week. Serena, who wants to take revenge against World No. 7th ranked Samantha Stosur on Australian soil and she will be hot favorite to clinch the title. Serena said she is very excited to play at Brisbane, before heading into the Australian Open.
The 28-year-old Kim Clijsters, who has played last tournament at 2011 Rogers Cup event in Toronto, where she won the first set with a 6-3 against Zheng Jie and forced to pulled out of the tournament, due to an abdominal injury. Clijsters also withdrew from the 2011 Western & Southern Open and 2011 US Open, where she won the title in 2009 and 2010.
The Belgium star said that, it will be a big test for her to return back to court, where she will battle against tough opponents like Russian star Maria Sharapova, Samantha Stosur and Serena Williams. Clijsters, who has won 2010 Brisbane International title, after beating Justine Henin in the final in three sets with a 6–3, 4–6 and 7–6(6) score line.
