The former World No. 1 ranked Andy Roddick of Untied states will take on Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei in the opening round of the 2011 Shanghai Masters tournament, schedule to play at 07:30 GMT on Monday in Shanghai.
The 29-year-old Roddick has been playing good tennis in the recent ATP tournaments, where he has reached the quarter final at the US Open tournament and semi final at the Winston Salem event. The American star has fell in the first round of the China Open to South African Kevin Anderson in straight sets with a 4-6 and 5-7 score line.
The Chinese Taipei qualifier Yen-Hsun Lu will have to face a tough fight against Roddick in his first round at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena. Lu, who has lost in the Thailand Open first round last week against Gilles Simon of France in three sets with a 7-6, 5-7 and 4-6 score line. The Chinese qualifier also lost in the opening round of the US Open event to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in consecutive sets with a 6-4, 6-4 and 6-4.
Both the players are battling for the fifth occasion, where Roddick leads with a 3-1 win loss head-to-head record against Yen-Hsun Lu. The pair last meet at the 2010 Wimbledon event, as Roddick won the match in three sets with a 4-6, 7-6(3) and 7-6(4). The odds favor Roddick will win the match and advance into the second round of the 2011 Shanghai Masters tournament on Monday, an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 of the ATP World Tour, played on hard courts at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena in Shanghai.
