The Swiss former mixed doubles pair, Martina Hingis and Roger Federer will once again pair-up in the next year opening grand slam tournament, 2012 Australian Open for their proposal to compete in the 2012 London Olympics.
Former Swiss No.1, Hingis is the main attraction for the 2012 Australian legends event is expected team-up with Federer ahead of their preparation for the London Olympics. However, there is no-official conformation about the pair.
Swiss has won the 5-grand slam titles with three coming out at the Australian Open from 1997-1999. However, the former No.1 has been out of grand slam tournament, since the 2007 US Open.
Hingis had great success in doubles during her career, winning nine Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles and the 2006 Australian Open mixed doubles title along with India’s Mahesh Bhupathi.
If the Martina Hingis will be team-up with former No.1 Swiss, Roger Federer in the richest grand slam tournament, the pair’s Olympic stock would be improved a lot.
Federer have teamed up with Hingis once before as a tandem, winning the 2001 Hopman Cup, defeating the United States in the final.
The mixed doubles contest has been added in the 2012 London Olympics, where the pair team-up has updated. Earlier in August, the Swiss Maestro., Federer said if he played with anyone he wanted it to be Hingis because she’s an “amazing player.” He has practiced with her and played with her at the Hopman Cup.
In addition to holding a career singles Grand Slam, Federer teamed with countryman Stanislas Wawrinka to win the men’s doubles gold medal at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing. His furthest advancement in men’s singles in the Olympics came in 2000, when he finished fourth.
