Former No.1 players, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova have been withdrawn form the China Open, which is scheduled to be held from 1st October, 2011.
Russian Former No.1, Maria Sharapova has twisted her ankle while serving in the quarterfinals encounter against the 2011 Wimbledon Champion, Petra Kvitova and has been withdrawn from the next week’s China Open.
However, the Russian world No.2 has tweeted that, Good news is that the MRI showed no big damage in the ankle and will do my best to recover in time for Istanbul, the season-ending championships.
It better recover soon because I can become quite the annoying patient! I will keep everyone posted with my progress.
While, Serena Williams, who has been out of the tournament last year, due to injury has also decide to be out of the China Open. Serena has made a great come back to tennis and has reached the finals of the 2011 US Open.
According to the official website of the China Open, Serena should have arrived in Beijing on Friday, however, she didn’t appear in the women’s singles draw, meaning she would be absent for the second consecutive year.
It has been a bad season, as most of the seeded players are being out of tennis, due to lot of injuries. The list of players, who been out of the China open in both ATP and WTA are, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Richard Gasquet, Robin Soderling and Venus Williams.
