The World No. 21st ranked Jurgen Melzer and former World No. 8th ranked Marcos Baghdatis will fight in the Malaysian Open quarter finals on Friday at 08:35 GMT.
The Austria star Melzer has reached quarter finals of the 2011 Malaysian Open on Wednesday, after smashing Rik Devoest of South Africa in the second round. Melzer has received opening round bye and also seeded number four in the tournament. The 30-year-old Melzer also lost in the second round of the 2011 US Open Igor Kunitsyn of Russia in five sets with a 6-3, 3-6, 1-6, 2-6 and 6-7 score line.
Marcos Baghdatis has been playing consistently well this season, where he has fell in the second round of the Metz Open to Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine in three sets with a 7-6, 5-7 and 6-3. Baghdatis played well in the Winston Salem tournament, as he fell to American John Isner in the quarter finals with a 6-1, 3-6 and 4-6.
Jurgen Melzer and Marcos Baghdatis are facing for the second occasion, where Austria player leads with a 1-0 win loss head-to-head record against Baghdatis. The pair last meets at Australian Open in January this year, as Melzer won the match, after Cyprus star retired from the fourth sets due to injury with a 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-1 and 4-3. The odds favors Melzer is having most to the opportunities’ to win the match and move to semi final of the 2011 Malaysian Open.
