Frenchman Gael Monfils will clash against Jarkko Nieminen of Finland in the quarter finals of the 2011 Thailand Open, scheduled to play at 06:30 GMT on Friday.
The World No. 7th ranked Monfils, who has been playing consistently this year and made early exit from the 2011 US Open tournament. Monfils has fell in the second round of the 2011 US Open tournament to Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain in tough five sets with a 6-7, 7-5, 7-6, 4-6 and 4-6. The Frenchman also advanced into the 2011 Cincinnati Masters, where fell to 2011 US Open champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia.
The 30-year-old Jarkko Nieminen has overwhelmed Robin Haase of Netherland in the second round with a 7-6 and 7-6 and beaten Dominic Thiem of Austria in the opening round with a 6-1, 4-6 and 7-5 score line. Finland star Nieminen has made early exit from the 2011 US Open championship, where he lost to Fernando Verdasco of Spain in four sets with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-6 and 4-6.
The pair has been battling for the first time in career, where the odds favors Gael Monfils will win the quarters against Finland star and advances into the semi final of the 2011 Thailand Open on Friday, played here on the hard courts at Bangkok in Thailand. The other quarter final matches, World No. 4th ranked Andy Murray will meet Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, Gilles Simon of France to play against German star Matthias Bachinger and Donald Young of United States to battle against Go Soeda of Japan.
