2006 US Open champion, Maria Sharapova will be facing for the first time in the finals grand slam tournament of the year at the 2011 US Open champion.

World No.3, Maria Sharapova will be battling against British world No.104, Heather Watson in the first round of the 2011 US Open Champion on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 20:10 GMT, in the final grand slam tournament, which is being held in at Flushing Meadows, New York.

This will be their first head to head encounter against each other in any of the WTA tournaments, as the Russian world No.3 is hot favourite to clinch the first round victory against the Britain player.

World No.3, Maria Sharapova after her brilliant performance by clinching Cincinnati Masters is looking good this season. Sharapova has show a thrilling performance this season in grand slam tournament reaching semifinals at Rolando Garros and Finals on grass court at Wimbledon. The world No.3 after winning 2-WTA titles this season at Rome Masters and Cincinnati Masters has got a win-loss record of 39-10 in 2011. Three times grand slam champion is now aiming for her first grand slam time this year at Flushing Meadows, New York.

19-years old British world No. 104, Heather Watson has been in a poor form, so far in her career. Watson having a win-loss record of 29-19 this will be having a tough time against the three times grand slams champion, Maria sharapova. Watson has showed her best performance this season by reaching quarterfinals in Auckland and Memphis tournament.

As per the predictions, it would be a thrilling straight sets victory for the Russian World No.3, Sharapova in the first round of the 2011 US Open.
