The former World No. 1 player Serena Williams has dropped from No. 25th position to No. 175th spot in the latest WTA Rankings.
The 13-time Grand Slam champion Serena had suffered a shocking drop in the latest WTA Rankings, where she had fallen lowest rank to 175th position, since 1997. Serena has return to the tennis from injury and health problem, as she lost her fourth round match in Wimbledon 2011 to Marion Bartoli of France.
The 29-year-old Serena said that, she had missed out just two Grand Slam tournaments, as she had played 16 WTA Tour tournaments in 2009 season. She is getting ready to face hard in the US Open on next month, where she is one of the hot favorite to lift the championship. Serena is scheduled to play in the WTA Tour tournaments in Stanford, Toronto and Cincinnati, before 2011 US Open at New York.
Serena has won the US Open crown in 1999, 2002 and 2008, as she is looking to win the title for fourth occasion. Caroline Wozniacki is leading with No. 1 spot in the WTA Rankings along with Kim Clijsters. Meanwhile Novak Djokovic leads No. 1 position in the ATP Rankings along with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Jo-Wilfred Tsonga climbed five places to 14th position, after his semi final appearance in the Wimbledon 2011.
