The former world No.1, Juan Carlos Ferrero clinches his 16th ATP title after defeating Pablo Andujar in the finals of the 2011 Mercedes Cup which is being held in Stuttgart, Germany.
Spaniard former No.1, Juan Carlos Ferrero claimed his 16th career singles title by defeating compatriot Pablo Andujar on Sunday in the final of the 2011 Mercedes Cup, an ATP World Tour 250 event being played here in Stuttgart, Germany.
After taking the opening set 6-4, Ferrero won six consecutive games to seal the second. Andujar committed seven double faults and won just 36% of his second-service points.
This was the first all-Spanish final since 1979 and 2003 French Open champion Ferrero, who is currently ranked No.85 in the world, was a heavy favourite in the later stages of the event.
For his win, Ferrer collected the winner’s check of €68,850 in prize money and was presented a Mercedes-Benz SLK 350 Blue EFFICIENCY car besides the valuable 250 South African Airways ATP Ranking points.
Ferrero after winning his 16th ATP title has stated that, it was a dream come true by winning the tournament and stated that, this is the first time playing at home after a long time and without any practice and goals he said that, he has participated in the tournament and is very happy to clinch the title.
