Maria Jose Sanchez will be facing her quarterfinals encounter against Sofia Arvidsson on Thursday, 7th July 2011 in the WTA Bastad Open 2011
Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez remains in the race to win this year’s Collector Swedish Open, following successive straight set victories in the first two rounds in Bastad.
The Spaniard may not be seeded here, but the departure of Caroline Wozniacki from the draw has significantly boosted her chances of making the final four.
Martinez Sanchez will now meet Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden in the quarter-finals. Arvidsson had been down 2-6 1-0 in her second round clash against Wozniacki, but the world No. 1 retired early, gifting the Swede a place in the last eight.
Arvidsson might not be amongst the favorites, but with the home crowd behind her, she could be a real threat.
This will be the first meeting between Arvidsson and Martinez Sanchez in WTA competition and it will be intriguing to see who gets the upper hand.
Martinez Sanchez seems likely to have the edge on Thursday, though this contest isn’t the easiest to predict.
