The king of clay, Rafael Nadal has defeated Roger Federer in the finals of the 2011 French Open to clinch his sixth tile at Roland Garros and his fourth French Open Final Victory against the 16-time grand slam winner.
Nadal has beaten Federer in three previous finals at Roland Garros (2006-08) and with his fourth victory over the Swiss in Paris; Nadal has claimed his tenth major title. This is Nadal’s sixth French Open title after wins in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010.
The defending champion in his finals encounter against the world No.3 player has thrashed him out to clinch the title at the French Open 2011. The world No.1 in thrilling encounter against the 16-time grand slam winner has defeated him in straight sets with a score line of 7-5, 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-1 to complete the match in three hours and 40 minutes of play.
Early in the first set, Nadal made a bad start, losing his serve against the world No.3 and later he bounced back to trail him down and broke the serve of Federer in the ninth game and later pulled the next three games to take an lead of 7-5 in the first set.
The second set was an equally balanced when Nadal squandered an early 3-1 lead to let Federer push the matter into the deciding tie-break where the Spaniard once again found top form to race to a two sets to love lead.
The third set gave Nadal a crucial break in the sixth game which Federer once again took back to attempt to level things up in the set. Nadal’s loose play then gave Federer the third set by 7 games to 5.
With the win against the Roger Federer, the world No.1 Spaniard has equalled Bjorn Borg’s record of six Roland Garros titles
