The most anticipated player in the women’s tournament to clinch the French Open 2011 title has come to an end, as Li Na has thrashed out the world No.7 Russian player, Maria Sharapova in the semi-finals of the French Open 2011.
The world No.6 chains sensation, Li Na in her semi-finals encounter on Thursday, 2nd May, 2011 has thrashed out the former world No.1, Maria Sharapova in the straight sets with a score line of 6-4 7-5 to enter to the finals of the French Open 2011.
Na Li opened the match on a bright note and broke Sharapova’s serve in the second game to lead the first set comfortably. However, the Russian broke Li back to get things on level terms at 4-5. A fatal error then cost Sharapova her serve and with it, the opening set 4-6.
The second set saw a major shift in momentum when Sharapova broke Li in the very first game to lead the Chinese star by 3-1 and 4-2. Na Li, however bounced back by that time and once again put her nose in front at 5-4 and 6-5. The Russian’s last service loss of the day ultimately gave Na Li the historic 6-4, 7-5 win in straight sets.
The world No.6, Li Na will be battling against the defending champion, Francesca Schiavone in the finals of the 2011 French Open, this will be the second successive finals for the world No.6 this year.
Earlier this year, she was defeated in the Australian Open 2011 finals against Kim Clijsters.
