However, Maria Sharapova has not won this round in an ease. The No. 7 seed has come back from 1-4 set and has fought off five set points in the second to defeat the No. 12 seed, Agnieszka Radwanska with 7-6 (4), 7-5 in a time span of two hours. This victory has taken Sharapova to her first Grand Slam quarterfinal in two years.
Sharapova is three matches away from a career Grand Slam. Head-to-head, Maria Sharapova has won six of her seven matches with Agnieszka Radwanska. During the 2006 French Open junior championships, Sharapova has fell behind 4-1 in the first set and 5-3 in the second before turning things around. However, she saved five set points in the second.
In the account of Sharapova, 47 winners were concerned but not so much for the 44 errors. Besides, Radwanska has hit 13 winners and 12 errors. During the play, she double-faulted seven times but, she has served seven aces. However, she did not play her best game; she has once again showed some great fight. In the middle of the second set, Sharapova has saved two set points down by 3-5. After that, she has won the next three games to win the second set and gain the victory.
Maria Sharapova’s quarterfinal opponent will be the No. 15 Andrea Petkovic or No. 25 Maria Kirilenko. Sharapova easily defeated by Petkovic at the Australian Open. But, Sharapova is much more confident that she might prevail.
