The WTA top three seeded players in tennis, Caroline Wozniacki, Kim Clijsters and Vera Zvonareva are out after being defeated by their competitors in the French Open 2011, which is being held in Roland Garros in Paris, France.
The top three ranked players, Caroline Wozniacki, Kim Clijsters, and Vera Zvonareva have been thrashed out in the early stages of the tournament against the unseeded players and this was first time in the Open era, since 1968, none of the top three seeded women made it to the second week of Roland Garros and was the third time that none of the top three seeded women has reached the quarterfinals at a major in the Open era.
Caroline Woznizcki, the world No.1 still without a grand slam title in her account has started off in the French Open 2011 in style bating the unseeded player in the straight sets. However, she was felt short on Friday in her third round encounter against the world No. 28, Daniela Hantuchova with a score line of 6-1 6-3.
Kim Clijsters, the world No.2 has entered into the French Open grand slam with an ankle injury. However, she has started off her Roland Garros tournament well defeating her competitors in straight sets. But in the second round of the competition, She appeared to be having no trouble with her 20-year-old foe, leading 6-3 5-2 when Rus became finding the corners and Clijsters lost her rhythm and confidence. Rus, who staved off two match points by Clijsters, took 11 of the next 12 games to win 3-6 7-5 6-1
Vera Zvonareva, the world No.3 was defeated in the fourth round of the tournament against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova with a score line of 7-6 (4) 2-6 6-2. Zvonareva led 4-2 in the opening set before letting her opponent back into the match. In the third set neither player seemed able to win, while both appeared ready to lose as each made a series of errors.
