Vera Zvonareva, the world No.3 player will be battling Alexandra Dulgheru in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Brussels Open on Thursday, 19th May, 2011 at 12:05 GMT to enter into the final eight of the tournament.
Alexandra Dulgheru is ranked at number 28 in the world. While, the Russian top seeded player, Vera Zvonareva is ranked No.3 WTA rankings.
Dulgheru had a slow start this year with first round losses at Brisbane and the Australian Open. But then improve in months to reach the quarterfinals at Marbela. She then again followed that up with a few first round loses. She defeated Klara Zakopalova in the previous round to set the quarterfinal clash against Zvonareva.
An all changed and well equipped Zvonareva had taken on the WTA circuits this year. With her positive strategy she managed to win her eleventh WTA title at Doha and then reached the semi-final at Miami in the recent past. She will be expecting a few victories here in order to improve her rankings this year.
Both the players have met once before and the head to head is at 1-0 in Zvonareva’s favour. The last time they met was last year at the US Open where the Russian won in straight sets.
Zvoanreva is equipped with one of best defences in the game and can hammer backhands from the back of the court. Dulgheru can thump those thunderous forehands at any given stage in the match. Zvonareva should be able to win in two tricky sets.
As per the predictions it would be straight set victory for the Russian World No.3, Zvonareva.
