The legends are back to tennis-court clashing up against each other in the 2011 BNP Paribas Showdown for the Billie Jean King Cup. The event is scheduled on 28th February, 2011 at Madison Square Garden which features two great tennis rivalries as John McEnroe faces off against Ivan Lendl to be followed by Pete Sampras against Andre Agassi.
John Patrick McEnroe, the America Tennis Hall of Fame former worldno.1, has won 7-grand slam titles with three at Wimbledon and four US-open titles.
Ivan Lendl, the former worldno.1 player has won 8-grand-slam tournaments and has competed in 19 Grand Slam singles finals; he holds records of being worldno.1 for 270 weeks. He has won two Australian open titles, three French open and three US-open titles.
Pete Sampras, the America Tennis Hall of Fame winner in 2007, who holds the world no.1 rank for 286 weeks, has recently been named as the spokesperson for Tennis Night. Sampras in his entire career has won 14-Grand Slam singles titles. He hold the record of most Wimbledon titles in his career with total of seven titles on Grass, two Australian Open titles, and five U.S. Open singles titles. Sampras played against Roger Federer in 2008 at Madison Square Garden in a sold out event.
Andre Agassi, who holds the world no.1 rank for 101 weeks, has won four Australian Open titles, two U.S. Open singles titles, one Wimbledon title and has won a French open title.
The McEnroe vs Lendl contest will be a pro set match the first person to win 8 games with a two game advantage wins the set and the match. The Sampras vs Agassi contest will be a best of three set match.
