Rafael Nadal, the world no.1 tennis superstar will be competing against the Lionel Messi, soccer celebrity for the Laureus World Sports men of the year. The live ceremony will be held on Monday, 7 February in Abu Dhabi, for the Laureus World Sports Awards.
Rafael Nadal, one of the tough contenders, for the Sportsman of the Year’ trophy will be competing with the likes of Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta, Barcelona teammates, Sebastian Vettel, youngest Formula One World champion, Manny Pacquiao(Filipino boxer) and Kobe Bryant(American basketball star LA Lakers’) for the prestigious Laureus Awards, which will be announced on Monday.
The world no.1 Spaniard, Nadal, who was aiming to become the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all four Grand Slam titles after winning the US Open , French open and Wimbledon titles was out of action for short period due to Thigh Muscle Tear, which caused him to loss the Australian open.
Nadal supervise to turn the spotlight away from Messi and Iniesta and impress the robust jury of former top athletes such as Franz Beckenbauer, swimming legend Mark Spitz and former cricketer Steve Waugh among others, the Spaniard would obtain his second Laureus trophy after 2006.
Lionel Messi, the Argentina soccer star, struggled for goals during the last year’s World Cup and has been in red-hot form for Barcelona and managed the inspiring Spanish mid-fielder who was instrumental in clinching his team its maiden World Cup title, for the FIFA World Footballer of the Year honor is a tough competitor for the sportsman of the year.
So, who will be the Laureus World Sports men of the year, whether it will be Rafael Nadal or Lionel Messi?
