Kim Clijsters, the Australian open champion, after losing her first set came back strongly and thrashed out Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-7 (10), 6-2, 6-1, on Sunday as Belgium took the lead of 4-1 defeating the last year finalists, United States, to penetrate into semifinals of the Fed Cup World Group.

Clijsters gave a brilliant start to Belgium, by defeating Bethanie Mattek-Sands and taking an incredible lead of 1-0 and in the second singles Yanina Wickmayer defeated Melanie Oudin 6-2, 6-0 for a 4-0 lead.

The U.S. team, last year finalists, secured their only point in the doubles event, as Liezel Huber and Vania King defeated Kirsten Flipkens and An-Sophie Mestach by 6-3, 7-5 in doubles.

Mattek-Sands, gave a solid start to the US, by winning a tie-break in the first set against Clijsters. However, the top ranked player, dominated in all aspects of the game by winning the second and third set against the world no.48 ranked player. Last year Americans were defeated in the finals against Italy.

Belgium will play their semi-finals against Czech Republic on April 16-17 in Charleroi, to confirm their position in the finals.

Earlier, Czech Republic has taken an undefeatable lead over Slovakia 3-0 on Sunday to enter the semifinals.
